New MD heads Aqua Services & Engineering, Namibia

Submitted by: Colleen Payne

Veolia Water Technologies South Africa’s Namibian partner, Aqua Services & Engineering (ASE), has announced the appointment of Luther Rukira as Managing Director, who takes the helm from retiring MD Chris Stöck, effective 01 February 2015.

Well-qualified for the task at hand, Rukira, who has his MSc. Hydrology and BSc. Mathematical Sciences, comes with extensive experience in water supply operations and maintenance management, particularly with respect to water abstraction, treatment and distribution. His former position as Deputy Director – Rural Water Supply South, with the Namibian Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Rural Development, as well as more recent management positions with the Namibia Water Corporation – including General Manager: Water Supply, stand him in good stead to lead the private Namibian water treatment company.

Keynote projects in which Rukira has played a key role include contributing to the development of Namibia’s National Water Policy and Legislation; coordinating the development of a company-wide asset management system as his personal initiative at Namibia Water Corporation; and several trans-boundary water resources management projects on the Kunene and Orange River Basins.

Rukira, who is married and has four children, when questioned on the short-term future of ASE, says that over the next two years he envisages the company growing in the EPC arena, additional growth in the number of chemical contracts and operation and maintenance contracts.

Aqua Services & Engineering (Pty) Ltd (ASE) was established in 1993 as a company to support the local water treatment industry. This mainly includes the supply of turnkey water and wastewater treatment installations, water treatment equipment (components), chemicals and a fully-fledged instrumentation section. The company merged with Veolia Water Technologies South Africa on 1st June 2008.
