gia Awards Dinner - Honouring Carrol Boyes

We are delighted to announce that, Carrol Boyes was chosen as the winner of The Global Innovation Award [gia] in the category Home & Houseware Retail 2020. Due to the pandemic, the gia Awards Dinner was subsequently postponed and 2 years later, Janine George, Chief Product, Marketing & Revenue Officer and PR Manager, Michelé Stuurman from Carrol Boyes, attended the international event to receive the long-anticipated award.

The International Housewares Association (IHA), together with the initial group of magazine sponsors from 13 countries, officially launched gia in January 2000 with the goal of honouring excellence in home goods retailing around the world. gia is the most recognised, high-profile awards program for home goods retailers anywhere around the globe.

Carrol Boyes, founder, and creator of Carrol Boyes (Pty) Ltd retailer was announced as the top retail award winner via a live streaming event that took place on the 23rd of April in 2020. Although this prestigious global award announcement was received with excitement and pride, we were saddened at the prospect of not being able to attend a formal ceremony to officially receive and bring this global award home to South Africa. However, this changed towards the end of 2021, when the organisers of the gia Awards Dinner informed us that the event would indeed take place on Saturday, 5th of March 2022, in the United States of America. Janine and Michelé were subsequently hosted by gia in Chicago and brought home the prestigious trophy after a busy week of networking and exploring retail trends in the industry.

We are elated to be able to receive a very special award in the scenic city of Chicago after 2 years of not being able to travel internationally. We view the award as an honour and as a recognition of Carrol’s efforts in the homewares and retail sector. Sadly, Carrol passed away in 2019 but in her final communication to the employees of Carrol Boyes, she encouraged collaboration, innovation and to always do things differently - which remains our inspiration to this day.

Charles Boyes, CEO of- and brother to Carrol Boyes, expressed his delight and said, “It is a tremendous honour for Carrol Boyes to receive the International gia Award. It is a tribute to our company’s teamwork, commitment to excellence and Carrol’s designs. And as a company we all recognise that this award can be traced back to the legacy of Carrol Boyes over the past 32 years.”

The Carrol Boyes range of homeware, gifting, chocolate, and wine products has a recognised commercial presence throughout South Africa – with 24 dedicated stores and an e-commerce site www.carrolboyes.com catering to customers both locally and internationally.

Over the years, Carrol Boyes has won numerous awards and we are immensely proud to announce this, our second international award, as a testament to our dedication and passion for design, art, and functionality in the retail sector.
