Entry level employee becomes a boss - ambition is personified in South African Women

KRYOLAN CELEBRATES ITS PEOPLE – DISEGO REHAB RAMPHAGO –

AMBITION PERSONIFIED AS AN ENTRY LEVEL EMPLOYEE BECOMES A BOSS

Johannesburg, August 2022 – This Women’s Month, global make-up brand, Kryolan SA, shines a spotlight on one of its unsung heroines. In a world where CEOs and top management get most of the attention, Kryolan SA shifts focus to one of its rising young female leaders, without whom products would never hit the shelves or reach the public. Disego Ramphago, Factory Supervisor at Kryolan SA’s Head Office in Johannesburg, is a shining young star on her way to the top who started from the bottom. She shares her insights on being a hard-working woman in South Africa.

What is your role at Kryolan SA?

“I am responsible for ensuring that the company stock levels meet the business’s needs. I monitor the internal stock levels between different departments and manage our ordering requirements for shipments from Germany.

“My title is Factory supervisor, but it is a multifaceted position. Apart from managing stock levels, I also manage our factory staff team. The job requires a lot of sensitivity and empathy. I communicate our organisational needs to my team, providing guidance and support as I oversee performance in their day-to-day tasks.

“This also helps me identify developmental and strategic benchmarks I can report on and implement to balance and optimise my department’s output.”

What motivates you in your current responsibilities?

“I am naturally someone who is into planning, order and organisation. I function better in an organised environment. I am very fortunate in that I work very well with and within my team. The ability to lead a team to success, regardless of how small the task might seem, motivates me daily. We must take ownership of every task.”

What inspires you about working at Kryolan SA?

“Kryolan is a world-class make-up company, well-equipped with diverse resources that benefit employees and customers alike. My needs as an employee are met regarding career advancement, and my contributions are heard and valued. As a woman in business, this is critical for me.

“I started working at Kryolan South Africa as a cleaner and worked my way into the factory as packaging personnel. I jumped at the opportunity to learn new skills and decided I had to keep bettering myself and advancing my career.

“I wanted to expand on the skills I learned and grow my knowledge so I could perform better. So, I took the initiative and applied for assistance from the company to study stock management, and it worked! Kryolan has allowed me to further my qualifications, and I can now apply them properly in managing packaging, bulk and ready goods.”

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

“Extra sensitivity to what other people are thinking and feeling. We can’t read people's minds. but emotional intelligence is a useful skill in the workplace, especially if you manage employees and customers.”

Where do you see yourself five years from now?

“I hope to explore and develop my skills and experience as much as possible. I will also seek opportunities to extend my responsibilities to keep growing with the company.”

What is something that no one knows about you?

“I was a soccer player in my younger days. Perhaps that is where my competitive nature started.”

For the make-up enthusiasts: If we opened up your makeup bag, what is your one Kryolan must-have product?

“High Gloss. A shiny, glossy lip always makes me feel good.”
