Van Wyk will be joined by Karl Smith, Inspirational Business Speaker and founder of Business Networking South Africa. Renowned as ‘Africa’s Networking Guru’, he inspires and entertains his audiences with his vibrant, hands-on, motivating and highly interactive sessions to turn relationships into career success and profits.

Smith describes networking as “…the development and maintenance of mutually valuable relationships. It’s not schmoozing; it’s not just handing out business cards, selling, marketing or small talk. Those activities are part of networking, but unfortunately, many people’s misunderstanding of the term causes them to network ineffectively.”

Van Wyk who has hosted these annual events for women the third year says that “the main aim of the upcoming One-Day Skill-Building Seminar is to help women in business and other professions to build strong productive relationships”.  As much as networking is an important task, it sometimes has a negative connotation. The term sometimes conjures up images of back-slapping, forced smiles, awkward conversations or brown-nosing, and because of these negative undertones, many people shy away from becoming actively engaged in the process.

Says, Van Wyk, “Boil it down and etiquette is really all about making people feel good. It's not about rules or telling people what to do, or not to do, it's about ensuring some basic social comforts”.
