SA brands and Mthethwa honour Team South Africa at the Minister's Recognition of Excellence Awards

Johannesburg, October 2021: On 30 September 2021, at the Birchwood Hotel & OR Tambo Conference Centre, Nathi Mthethwa, Minister of Sport, Arts & Culture, hosted the Minister’s Recognition of Excellence Awards with the South African Olympic and Paralympic medallists and coaches for the official prize money handover. This followed Team South Africa’s achievements at Tokyo’s 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympics.

In uncertain times, the Awards were a reminder of the power that sport has to bring people together. The recent Olympics saw South Africa rally behind Team South Africa, and particularly now famous medallists Tatjana Schoenmaker, Bianca Buitendag and Paralympians, Sheryl James, Ntando Mahlangu, Nicholas Pieter du Preez, Louzanne Coetze and Arune Weyers.

Sponsors were also on-hand to celebrate. Among them was professional make-up brand, Kryolan SA – a partner to the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) in driving greater awareness about Team South Africa’s female achievers.

Neil Wilkinson, Managing Director of Kryolan SA and his wife Heather were among those in attendance. Wilkinson comments: “Seeing South Africa’s hardworking coaches and athletes receive the recognition they deserve is hugely satisfying – both as a sponsor of the team and as South Africans.

“The importance of monetary rewards and sponsorship can’t be emphasised enough. Sponsorship and funding allow our athletes to maintain their focus on the intense training and preparation that makes them leaders in their sports. “Their success in turn strengthens South Africa’s image on the world stage and gives us an ongoing sense of national pride. The financial boost diminishes the athletes’ stress in terms of finding money to prepare for their events.

“As brands associated with these sports achievers, we gain incredible value from partnering with the greatest names in South African sports. At Kryolan, our focus during the Olympics was on the unique beauty women athletes encompass and the inspiration they provide to their fans and followers. Tonight, the Minister’s Awards was yet another chance for that beauty to shine through. We are honoured to have been involved”.

Congratulations to all the great athletes and coaches that were a part of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics for making South Africa proud.
