DPO Group Extends Africa Reach with Licences to Operate in Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire & DR Congo

DPO Group, a leading payments technology company in Africa, has announced that it is now operating in Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire and the Democratic Republic of Congo in francophone Africa. The company works with over 100,000 merchants throughout Africa enabling businesses to pay and be paid on and offline quickly, securely and easily.

“We believe that there is significant potential for e-commerce in francophone Africa, making the region a key focus area for us. While we’ve been operating in Côte d’Ivoire since early 2019, being able to now also process payments in Senegal and DR Congo is an exciting development for us and demonstrates our commitment to growth in Africa,“ commented Eran Feinstein, CEO of DPO Group.

“We’re looking forward to working with many new merchants in Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire and DR Congo and supporting small and medium-sized businesses by enabling them to financially transact with other businesses within the region and throughout Africa, Our virtual prepaid card, facilitated by Mastercard, will allow businesses across Africa, to make online payments internationally with other companies, such as Amazon and Expedia.com,” Mr Feinstein added.

DPO Group launched operations in Kenya in 2006 and since then has expanded across East, West and Southern Africa through organic growth and strategic acquisitions. The company is the largest payment service provider in South Africa following the acquisition of PayFast in July.

By January 2021, DPO Group forecasts it will be processing millions of payment transactions in francophone Africa with greatest demand from the business travel arena initially, followed by e-commerce.

In Sub-Saharan Africa, the growth of mobile money is playing a pivotal role in extending financial services to those people traditionally excluded from the financial system. In Ghana, Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya and Tanzania, where DPO Group has been operating since early 2006, its partnership with mobile money operators such as M-Pesa, Airtel, Tigo, MTN and Orange has allowed consumers to pay their bills and shop online easily.  The company reports a 500% increase in the number of these transactions over the last 2 years. By 2021 DPO anticipates that 50% of its total transactions across Africa will be carried out via mobile phone.
