More partners move to Webber Wentzel

Three partners have recently joined Webber Wentzel, building both the firm’s Banking & Finance and Corporate teams. Banking & Finance specialist, Khurshid Fazel, will join Webber Wentzel (from Allen & Overy) as a partner with effect from 1 November 2019. Her focus areas include: preference share funding, acquisition finance, leveraged finance, debt restructuring and structured finance; fund financing; and tax issues/ opinions related to funding transactions. She is also a tax practitioner. Khurshid has a B.Proc and an LLB from the University of the Free State, an LLM in Corporate Law from the University of Johannesburg, and an LLM in Tax from the University of the Witwatersrand. Her expertise is recognised by Chambers Global, IFLR1000, Legal 500 and Who’s Who: Capital Markets.

Thabang Masingi and Mlungisi (Mlu) Mahlangu, have also joined Webber Wentzel, bolstering the firm’s corporate team. Both Thabang and Mlu previously worked at Webber Wentzel in their early careers.

Thabang has considerable M&A, equity capital markets, mining and banking & finance experience and was most recently the Head of M&A and Capital Markets Legal at ABSA Group. He has an LLB and an LLM in Commercial Law from the University of South Africa and an LLM in International Human Rights Law from the University of Pretoria. Thabang is also a fellow of the New York City Bar.

Mlu specialises in Corporate/  M&A and has had the opportunity to work on several ground-breaking energy projects. He joins Webber Wentzel from Pinsent Masons and has previously worked at Macfarlanes in Johannesburg and Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton in New York. Mlu is completing his LLM from the University of Johannesburg and has an LLB from the University of Pretoria. Mlu is also a fellow of the Cyrus R. Vance Centre for International Justice.
