{pp}This Poverty Relief Programme will empower the youth to foster self-reliance and become self-sustainable through provision of economic empowerment & vocational skills.

The project is funded by a $50,000 grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation of South Africa.

Small Business Skills provide the youth with Life Skills, Job Hunting Skills, Basic Computer Skills & Small Business Skills over a period of one-year to increase independence, self-reliance and to escape a cycle of poverty.

“These trainings will instill confidence and build their self-esteem, preparing them for the job market and will also give them skills to start their own business”.

National Youth Development Outreach (NYDO) is a nonprofit organization formed in 1990 and is right on the cutting edge of our vision to see a new nation of young, diligent and responsible leaders who will serve our country and our people with integrity and commitment.

Small Business Skills Development is a Poverty Alleviation initiative of which the target group is the poorest of the poor, where there is a very low income or grant in a household. According to statistics provided by government, 70% of the unemployed are youth, thus this project focuses on unemployed youth between 18 – 34 years in Eersterust, Mamelodi & Nellmapuis.

The W.K. Kellogg Foundation was established in 1930 “to help people help themselves through the practical application to knowledge and resources to improve their quality of life and that of future generations.” To achieve the greatest impact, the Foundation targets its grants toward specific areas. These include: health; food systems and rural development; youth and education; and philanthropy and volunteerism.

Within these areas, attention is given to exploring learning opportunities in leadership; information and communication technology; capitalizing on diversity; and social and economic community development. Grants are concentrated in the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the southern African countries of Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Swaziland, and Zimbabwe.
