Advertising Standards Authority of South Africa calls for applications for permanent CEO position

JOHANNESBURG, 31 August 2017 – In accordance with the Business Rescue plan adopted by creditors on 25 April 2017, the ASA announces that it will be interviewing prospective candidates for the position of permanent CEO during September 2017.

The Advertising Standards Authority of South Africa (ASA) is a self-regulating independent body, established by the marketing communications industry and mandated by this industry to ensure the protection of both consumers and the industry which it serves. The ASA has been safeguarding consumers and protecting advertising freedom since 1968 and continues to enforce, adopt and uphold its Code of Advertising Practice in an impartial and objective manner.

The Business Rescue plan with the purpose of returning the ASA to solvency, limiting

overheads, reducing litigation risk and implementing a sustainable funding model is ongoing. To this end, a new board was elected in May 2017, with Gail Schimmel taking up the position of Interim CEO soon thereafter. The Business Rescue practitioner has announced a call for applications from individuals who wish to apply for the position of permanent CEO of the ASA.

The latest date for submission of the application is 15 September 2017.  Interviews with applicants will be held during September 2017 and an announcement on the outcome of the process will be made by the ASA shortly thereafter.
