[Pressportal.co.za] Andrew Ingram went to Qunu, the area near Mtata in the Eastern Cape in which the ex-president grew up, to photograph Nelson Mandela during his birthday celebrations, for Independent Newspapers.
He photographed the area in which Madiba grew up and the people who live there and in this multi-media presentation, featuring singing by the Mandela family's official choir,he hopes that you can get a feel of the excitement during the weekend celebrations. |

[Pressportal.co.za] About 500 learners in the town of Clanwilliam have been busy over the past week interpreting and re-enacting a story told by, the San (/Xam) people who occupied the area they live in today countless years ago.
The story holds a modern-day lesson for the children, and is chosen each year from an archive of San narratives recorded by linguists Lucy Lloyd and Wilhelm Bleek over 130 years ago. |

[Pressportal.co.za] After being fired from her position as deputy Minister of Health by President Thabo Mbeki, Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge flew to Cape Town International where she was mobbed by supporters and journalists.
Independent newspapers political editor Angela Quintal managed to get a few words from her before she was whisked away by her security men. Andrew Ingram took the pictures for the Cape Times. |

Cape Times photojournalist Andrew Ingram accompanied one of the teams on an exercise with the Airforce's 22 squadron and witnessed how they train to keep their skills up for the real thing. |

[Pressportal.co.za] Thousands of striking workers descended on the city from all directions - as at least one clash was reported between municipal workers and Metro Police outside the civic centre. As the crowds teemed in the streets, union officials frantically negotiated with police to authorise the planned march on Parliament.
One official feared "pandemonium" in the city centre if permission was not granted for the march. The mass action began as the government proposed a 7.25% wage increase for public servants, up from its 6.5% offer. |
