[Pressportal.co.za] The Writing Studio’s re-energised 6-Saturday Basic Workshop For Scriptwriters kicks off on February 2 at the Waterfront Studio’s Resource Centre. Hosted at the CFC Resource Centre that is sponsored by Waterfront Studios, PGWC and the Dell Foundation, this motivational and inspiration course explores the craft or writing a script for film and television, and examines the art of writing South African stories that reflect the uniqueness of culture, history and personal experiences. During the past eight years The Writing Studio has done more than 250 writing workshops throughout South Africa, including a Masterclass for Screenwriters for 40 writers from Africa at the Sithengi Film and TV Market's Talent Campus, and outreach workshops at the Kwa Mashu Festival in KwaZulu Natal. The 6-week course (on Saturday afternoons) is hosted by the Waterfront Studios in partnership with The Cape Film Commission. The workshop is ideal for ANYONE with an idea for a story. If there is something or someone you want to write about this is your opportunity to turn thoughts into words. Within 6 weeks your idea will be transformed or reworked into hardcopy, into 120 pages filled with action, description and dialogue in what is called a screenplay. The workshop looks at how to explore your idea, turn it into a marketable concept, and develop it into a story that will evolve into a powerful South African film. It also looks at how to develop characters, structure, writing dialogue, and how to sell yourself as a writer. Following the Basic Workshop for Scriptwriters, writers graduate to an Advanced Workshop For Scriptwriters and, once a draft has been completed, they will attend a Basis Workshop For Filmmakers to enter the world of filmmaking and develop their scripts through intensive reading sessions with potential producers. The trainer is published playwright, writer and movie journalist Daniel Dercksen, who is a qualified ETD Practitioner (Education, Training and Development), and has been involved in movie journalism for more than 20 years. As founder of The Writing Studio, he has been teaching workshops in scriptwriting and creative writing during the past eight years. The cost of the 6-week Evening Course for Scriptwriters is R900, with a discounted rate of R700 for students, scholars, and members of SASWA. Bursaries are available on discretion for disadvantaged writers. The Basic Workshop for Scriptwriters takes place on Saturday, February 2, 9, 16, 23 and March 1 and 8 from 14:00 until 17:00 at the Resource Centre at the Waterfront Studios.
